CATCH Verticalizer
Could computer games help rehabilitation? Yes, we think they can.
During the cooperation with rehabilitation group Ambulatorium we enhanced their medical device called Verticalizer with a computer game. The exercising is gamified, thus creating higher engagement and motivation for physical activity. Patient is no longer aware of a boring set of movement, instead he plays computer game.
We used modified game ArmA 2, we demilitarized the game by removing all the references to the military theme of the game. Instead of shooting the enemies, it enables the user to navigate through a beautiful and hyper realistic virtual landscape, one of the most elaborate in the world of gaming. thus stimulating the need for movement.
VVVV is used to interface the device and ArmA 2, it also operates the start-up sequence of the installation.
The work was made within the project CATCH. software developed by CIANT, hardware by Marek Peca, device by Ambulatorium, game ArmA 2 by Bohemia Interactive.
